“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

I am truly grateful to the organizers for their kind invitation, which gave me the opportunity to stand on another academic stage following my lecture in Qingdao this past March. That was my very first time visiting Qingdao, and I was honored to present to an audience of over 400 doctors who listened attentively and engaged deeply with the topic of orthodontic management for impacted teeth. The experience left a lasting impression on me and reinforced my sense of responsibility as a speaker.

This time, I found myself in Guangdong Foshan, again for the very first time. When I used to hear the name “Foshan,” only two things would come to mind: Wong Fei-hung’s legendary “Foshan Shadowless Kick”, and Ip Man’s iconic line, “I want to fight ten!”

To my surprise, this time I wasn’t fighting ten—I was facing two hundred doctors in a full-day orthodontic lecture.

My topic for this session was: How to Manage Impaction with 4 Easy Steps. The room was packed, the atmosphere was energetic, and the engagement level was remarkable. On the final day, the Q&A session went on for over an hour, with many doctors eagerly presenting their own cases for discussion. The depth of curiosity and clinical passion I witnessed was truly impressive.

If I had to summarize this experience in just a few words, I’d highlight these three: “A 200-doctor lecture,” “Strong desire to learn,” and “An hour-long post-lecture discussion.” This wasn’t just a one-way delivery of knowledge—it was a meaningful exchange, and it completely reshaped my understanding of Foshan as a city not only rich in culture, but also full of academic energy.

I would also like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my orthodontic mentor, Dr. Hui-Nan Chang. From my early days as a student to where I stand today—sharing knowledge on international stages—it has always been his guidance and encouragement that paved the way forward.

I would like to close with the words of Isaac Newton:

“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”

And I know well—I have been fortunate to stand on the shoulders of such a giant, allowing me to see farther and walk more steadily.
